Launched in 2001, the Murciélago marked Lamborghini’s return to the high-performance supercar scene after the Diablo era, solidifying its place as one of the most iconic models in Lamborghini’s storied history.
<h3 dir="ltr">The Birth of a Legend</h3>
The Murciélago’s name is inspired by a famous Spanish bull, continuing Lamborghini’s tradition of naming cars after fierce fighters. It pays homage to a bull known for strength and resilience, embodying Lamborghini’s aggressive design and raw power.
Designed by Luc Donckerwolke, the Murciélago debuted with a bold, angular aesthetic and signature scissor doors that made it an instant head-turner. Its lightweight carbon fiber structure and advanced aerodynamics kept it glued to the road at high speeds.
<h3 dir="ltr">Power and Innovation</h3>
Initially powered by a 6.2-liter V12 producing 572 hp, the Murciélago could sprint to 60 mph in around 3.8 seconds, reaching over 200 mph—a record for its time. Over its production run, Lamborghini introduced upgrades like the 2006 LP 640 with 631 hp, and the LP 670-4 SV, a lightweight, track-focused version with 661 hp and all-wheel drive.

In 2003, Lamborghini celebrated its 40th anniversary with a very special edition of the Murciélago — the Limited 40th Anniversary Edition.
