This 1962 Rolls-Royce Phantom V, crafted by the esteemed coachbuilder James Young, is a factory left-hand drive model featuring a stunning Mink Silver over Seychelles Blue exterior paired with a light gray leather interior. The James Young coachwork enhances the desirability and collectibility of this Phantom V. It is in excellent condition, both inside and out, as shown in the photos.
Features and Condition
The vehicle comes equipped with a window divider, rear stereo, A/C controls, rear bar compartments with glasses, picnic tables, and fold-out jump seats. Included are the original jack, tools, and flashlight. The paint is gorgeous, and the leather interior remains in excellent condition, as do the wood-veneered interior trims. This Phantom V would be a prestigious addition to any collection.
Historical Significance
The gentleman responsible for this coach build was James Young.
Previous ownership meticulously kept paperwork back to 1962 including numerous signatures of approval for the construction of this vehicle. This extensive documentation highlights the detailed coachwork building process, adding to the car's historical significance.
Restoration
Purchased by its most recent owner in 2018, the car underwent a complete refurbishment over the next four years, finishing in 2022. The owner took great care and attention to detail, ensuring the car was fully operable. This included sourcing UK-ordered windshield wiper mesh, a new Smith clock for the dash, and specially ordered new hide for the seats and door panels.
The engine overhaul, complete transmission rebuild, new wiring harness, and upgraded air conditioning were all completed, with detailed receipts totaling over $35,000 for mechanical servicing alone.
Paint and Interior
In late 2018, a $10,000 complete restoration of the paint was performed, transforming the car to its current Mink Silver over Seychelles Blue from its original black color. At the same time, European-sourced hide was installed on the seats and door panels, with the interior restoration costing over $8,000. The walnut wood in the interior, while showing patina, remains incredibly intact and well-preserved.
Upgrades and Performance
Upgrades include a more modern sound system and the replacement of the original generator with an alternator. This limousine runs, drives, and brakes beautifully, making it a pleasure to showcase in our showroom and offering a wonderful opportunity to find its next owner.
