Timing is everything in the world of high performance, whether on the racetrack or the wrist. The collaboration between luxury watchmakers and iconic car brands has resulted in timepieces that are as precise as they are breathtaking. These exclusive watches, inspired by their automotive counterparts, encapsulate the essence of speed, innovation, and design. From the bold and brash Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Speciale to the sleek and sophisticated TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963, these timepieces are not merely accessories but tributes to the peak of engineering and style. In this blog, we explore some of the most compelling collaborations that fuse the worlds of horology and automotive excellence.
Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Speciale Unico Ceramic
The Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Speciale Ceramic is a stunning tribute to the Ferrari 458 Speciale, available in two distinct editions: black ceramic with red, white, and blue details, or gray ceramic with gray and white details. This watch is a bold statement piece, not for those who prefer subtlety. Drawing design inspiration from the Ferrari 458 Speciale, it features a matching strap with a racing line, reminiscent of the car's central stripe. The dial mimics the mesh of the car’s air intakes and grills, and a polished prancing horse graces the dial along with a Ferrari logo on one of the pushers. The 45mm case is constructed from highly durable black ceramic, adorned with six trademark H-shaped screws in black titanium, and a red composite resin lower bezel. Inside, the HUB 1241 Unico automatic flyback chronograph movement, developed in-house by Hublot, boasts 331 components, a 60-minute chronograph with flyback function, and a 72-hour power reserve. The caseback, engraved with ‘LIMITED EDITION’ and the specific number of the piece out of 250, showcases the intricate movement.
TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963
Inspired by the exceptional Porsche 963 Hypercar, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 is a limited edition watch, with all 963 pieces sold. This timepiece is a tribute to the adrenaline-fueled world of professional racing, featuring a bold skeleton dial reminiscent of Porsche racing cars' chassis tubular shapes. The black forged carbon bezel, adorned with the white Porsche logo, enhances its striking appearance. Optimized for clarity, the dial includes bright white Super-LumiNova® indexes and a red marker at 4 o'clock, evoking the iconic Le Mans race’s start time. The sapphire caseback engraved with 'LIMITED EDITION' and 'XXX/963' and the "963" inscribed on the central link decor of the black integrated rubber strap emphasize its exclusivity and resolutely unique design.
Lamborghini Urus and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Ultra-Thin
When the Lamborghini Urus debuted, skeptics doubted that a supercar brand could produce an SUV without losing its iconic essence. Similarly, when Audemars Piguet presented the Royal Oak Perpetual Ultra-Thin concept, many thought a 6.30 mm thick automatic perpetual calendar was an impossible feat for regular production. Both brands, however, proved the doubters wrong. The Lamborghini Urus, known as the first Super Sport Utility Vehicle, perfectly blends the soul of a supercar with the functionality of an SUV, retaining the unmistakable Lamborghini DNA and delivering outstanding performance. The Urus' V8 bi-turbo engine offers a thrilling 650 HP, providing a driving experience that is both powerful and versatile. Similarly, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Ultra-Thin in titanium and platinum combines elegance and cutting-edge engineering, making it an ideal companion for daily wear. Together, these masterpieces of design and functionality set new standards in their respective fields, showcasing what is possible when innovation and heritage meet.
Richard Mille 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail
The RM 40-01 Automatic Winding Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail is a horological sensation inspired by the aerodynamic efficiency of the McLaren Speedtail hypercar. Limited to just 106 pieces, this watch is a testament to Richard Mille's engineering prowess and McLaren's design excellence. The RM 40-01 features a bespoke movement housed in a case that mimics the form of a teardrop, echoing the Speedtail’s sleek lines. It boasts a Grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridges, an oversize date display, a power reserve indicator, and a variable-geometry rotor, all of which contribute to its exceptional performance and precision. The watch took 8,600 hours of development to perfect, resulting in one of Richard Mille's most complex and refined designs. With a power reserve of around 50 hours, an automatic winding tourbillon movement, and the capability to adjust to the wearer’s activity level, the RM 40-01 stands at the pinnacle of luxury watchmaking, mirroring the artistry and innovation of its hypercar namesake.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Sterrato Monobalancier
The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Sterrato Monobalancier is a marvel of watchmaking, blending advanced mechanics with a striking design inspired by the Lamborghini Sterrato supercar. This hyper-sports watch, limited to just 28 pieces, features a 45mm carbon case and a black DLC bezel, ensuring both durability and a bold aesthetic. Its skeletonized dial, accented with red and orange highlights, showcases the intricate RD630 caliber, which includes a tilted balance wheel, twin barrels, and a 60-hour power reserve. Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon Watch
Jacob & Co. and Bugatti, known for their long standing partnership in creating intricate and complex timepieces, have introduced the new Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon watch. This extraordinary watch draws inspiration from the new Bugatti Tourbillon Hypercar, revealed earlier this year. Limited to just 250 pieces—the same number as the eponymous hybrid hypercar—this watch features a bold, three-dimensional design shaped like the hypercar, measuring 52 x 44 mm, and showcases a visible V16 engine block automaton made from a single block of transparent sapphire. This engine block, part of the hand-wound caliber JCAM55 movement with 557 components, performs 20 full animation sequences on a single wind, mimicking the movement of 16 pistons in a crankshaft.
The watch also boasts a 30-second flying tourbillon, the fastest built by Jacob & Co., and a 48-hour twin power reserve indicator. The off-centered jumping retrograde hours and minutes replicate the RPM counter of the car’s dashboard, with hands that complete a 270-degree arc before resetting to zero. The first 150 pieces of this limited edition will be made with black DLC titanium, each priced at $340,000.
This collaboration between Jacob & Co. and Bugatti took two years, resulting in a timepiece that not only celebrates Bugatti’s latest engineering marvel but also pushes the boundaries of watchmaking, honoring the legacy of Ettore Bugatti.
