Lanzante, a company renowned for converting track-only cars for street use, has recently set its sights on the Red Bull RB17 hypercar. The RB17, developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies under the guidance of legendary F1 designer Adrian Newey, is designed to deliver Formula 1-like performance. Unveiled at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, this impressive machine is now on its way to becoming street-legal thanks to Lanzante's expertise.

Boasting a 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V-10 engine, the RB17 produces over 1,200 horsepower, with 200 of those coming from an electric motor integrated into the drivetrain. The engine, capable of revving up to 15,000 rpm, provides an exhilarating driving experience, with the car's total weight kept under 1,984 pounds due to its carbon fiber construction. The RB17's aerodynamic design, featuring active front and rear wings, helps generate up to 3,747 pounds of downforce, ensuring stability at high speeds. This impressive power-to-weight ratio promises a driving experience that closely mimics the thrills of an F1 car.

Lanzante's Street-Legal Conversion

Lanzante has a rich history of converting high-performance track cars for street use. Their portfolio includes the road-legal conversions of the McLaren P1 GTR, Senna GTR, Pagani Zonda R, Pagani Huayra R, and Porsche 935. The company's diligent approach ensures that each conversion retains the essence of the original vehicle while meeting all necessary road regulations.

For the RB17, Lanzante faces the challenge of preserving its extreme performance attributes while adding required components for street legality, such as side mirrors and modified lighting systems. This process is expected to add some weight to the vehicle, potentially affecting the car's aerodynamics and downforce capabilities. However, Lanzante is committed to maintaining as much of the original design's performance as possible, ensuring the RB17 remains a formidable presence both on and off the track.

Features and Specifications

The RB17 boasts a range of advanced features that set it apart from other hypercars. The suspension system features adjustable pushrod suspension with active height and roll control, complemented by carbon brakes for exceptional stopping power. Inside, the RB17 offers a driver-centric experience with custom seat options, an adjustable pedal box, and built-in storage for race suits and helmets. The car supports various tire options, including Michelin racing slicks and treaded tires, allowing for optimal performance and grip in different driving conditions.

The RB17's engine runs on standard pump gas, and each car comes with a 2-year/4,000-kilometer warranty, underscoring its usability and durability. Red Bull plans to offer a variety of events for RB17 owners, including track days and exclusive social events, further enhancing the ownership experience.

Pricing and Availability

The Red Bull RB17 is priced at a staggering £5 million (roughly $6.5 million), reflecting its cutting-edge technology and exclusivity. Despite this hefty price tag, all 50 units have been sold, indicating the high demand for this unique hypercar. The cost of the street-legal conversion by Lanzante is estimated to be an additional £500,000 ($650,000), a testament to the complexity and precision required to adapt the car for road use.

Production of the RB17 is scheduled to begin in 2025, with deliveries of the street-legal versions expected to follow later, possibly around 2026. Lanzante's conversion process is rigorous, often taking several months to ensure that each car meets the highest standards of safety and performance. The company's commitment to preserving the RB17's original design and performance ethos means that each road-legal version will be as close as possible to the track-only original, offering a unique driving experience for its owners.

The Lanzante-converted RB17 promises to be a groundbreaking addition to the world of hypercars. Combining Red Bull's advanced F1-derived technology with Lanzante's expertise in road conversions, this project offers a rare opportunity to experience near-track performance on public roads. As we await the first deliveries, expectations are high for what is set to be one of the most exciting street-legal hypercars ever produced.
