Vehicle Description

1990 Porsche Carrera 2
When Porsche first put the 964 generation 911 on sale in 1989, it caused a stir among Porsche purists as it was the first major overhaul of the 911 shape in the model's 25 year production run. With its integrated plastic bumpers, re-designed rear suspension and more supple cabin, the 964 spent many years as the orphaned 911 generation, with enthusiasts opting for the newer 993, or older G-Body cars. But in recent years, enthusiasts have come to realize that the 964 is potentially the best of the 911 range and represents the ideal middle-point between classic driving dynamics and modern comfort, technology and reliability. The 964 was launched into a world wide recession and over the model's 5 years of production, just over 62,000 units were produced- with a large number of those fitted with either all-wheel-drive or a convertible top.
Finding a 1990 Carrera 2 Coupe like this car is a challenge in itself and this car is particularly nice, and shows just 95,994 miles on the odometer. Finished in a classic color scheme of Guards Red over tan leather, this car has been well kept and stored under a cover in the climate controlled garage of the consignor since 2002. Over the last 33 years, this car has been treated to some subtle modifications and upgrades that have turned it from an enjoyable car to drive, to a proper driver's car that you will want to get in and just start racking up miles in. One of the biggest visual upgrades on this car is the stunning set of Ruf 5-spoke wheels which look great on the car thanks to an H&R lowering kit and clear "Euro" corner lights. One of the 964's signature design elements is the upright, classic style headlights - which in this car have been converted to HIDs, which make night driving a far more pleasant.
The interior is fitted with tan leather and carpets, and features that classic Porsche gauge cluster laid out right in front of the driver. The seats are equipped with partial power adjustment and this example was specified from the factory with cruise control to make it an easy road trip companion. A fully custom stereo was installed which offers outstanding, clear sound but required no new holes cut for additional speakers. Starting with a Clarion head unit the stereo system built around it consists of a Memphis 1500 Watt amp, dual 10" Focal subwoofers, and Focal door speakers. The install on this stereo was so impressive, it took 1st place in the Pro-Installed class at the CarToys 2010 stereo competition. Additionally, a Beltronics stealth radar/laser detection system was installed by Auto Dynamics and is expertly hidden both outside and inside the vehicle.
Powering the 964 is a 3.6 liter flat-6 which has received some modifications to help it breathe easier and sound even better than stock. A full custom stainless steel exhaust system with a catalytic converter delete was installed which makes an outstanding noise while also freeing up a bit of power. A freer flowing intake and upgraded throttle body have also been installed, along with an ECU chip to accommodate these upgrades, which was tuned by FVD Brombacher in Florida. Special fittings needed to be sourced to integrate these power adders, while retaining both cruise control and air conditioning, and the result is a properly quick car, that retains all of its stock streetability. The 5-speed manual transaxle is fitted with a 993 clutch bearing, lightened flywheel and an aftermarket limited slip differential which gives the car a significantly more dynamic feel when driving fast and transformed how the car drives. Recently, the car was taken out of storage and treated to a comprehensive service consisting of brake and clutch fluid replacement, new hood and engine struts, new heat exchanger sleeve, new spark plugs, new battery and fresh brakes all the way around. The consignor also replaced all the oil lines and undertook the noble task of tracking down and fixing all of the oil leaks on the motor to the tune of an additional $5,000.
This car is absolutely ready to go and will be a thrilling driving experience for whoever gets to be its next keeper. The great color combination, paired with numerous high-dollar modifications means that this 964 will stand out at your local cars and coffee, while also being a joy on your PCA drives. With its host of recent servicing, this car should be ready to get out and enjoy while the summer weather is still here!
