1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa
There are few cars more closely associated with the 1980s than the G-Body Porsche 911. Thanks in large part to their classic styling, exciting driving dynamics and legendary reliability, these 911s make the perfect classic that you can actually use. This 1987 911 Carrera Targa was delivered on February 25th, 1987 and has remained under the care of the original owner ever since. With considerable documentation dating back to new, this car has been in Washington for more than 30 years. This gem showcases original paint, all original interior, original drivetrain, paperwork - even the Targa top's headlining is original.
Finished in Grand Prix White over Marine Blue Leather, this 911 shows just 68,235 original miles and remains in exceptional condition throughout. Although this was the era of the whale tail 911, this car was ordered without the rear spoiler and looks all the better for it, offering a clean, classic shape that just looks right with the removable Targa top. Sitting on a set of black-centered 16-inch Fuchs with unpainted rims, the wheels provide the perfect complement with the white paint and black trim seen elsewhere on the car.
Moving into the cockpit, gorgeous Marine Blue leather hides cover the seats, along with matching blue carpeting throughout. This car was optioned with Automatic Heating Control, Electric Speed Control, and central locking system. Additionally, the car is fitted with its original and fully operational Blaupunkt Charleston head unit with AM/FM, cassette, and digital readout. The interior of this 911 is in overall outstanding condition and is a true time warp, feeling like a nearly new car when you slip into the driver's seat.
Powering this Carrera is Porsche's legendary 3.2L air cooled flat-6 that produces 214 horsepower. In today's terms that doesn't sound like a ton but it is plenty to propel this sub-3,000lb sports car to a top speed in excess of 150 mph. What is arguably most important about the 911s built for 1987 and beyond is the addition of the Getrag G50 5-speed manual transaxle, and paired with a hydraulic clutch. This transmission transformed the 911 driving experience thanks to its positive shift throws and a much easier to modulate clutch, meaning this could easily be used every day if desired. Not only are these cars great to drive but they are notorious for being some of the most stoutly built sports cars of all time, with many cars logging mileage figures deep in the 6-figures without much more than routine maintenance.
This 911 Carrera Targa is a very original example that has been exceptionally cared for and still drives like new. To say that it would be difficult to find another example like this would be an obvious understatement. Regardless of whether this is your only 911 or an addition to your larger collection, you will be smiling every time you get behind the wheel as the car's second owner.
